Let us first see what is the cause of uncertainty. Is it the future? Or is it the desire to control future? No, it’s the feeling you are having in the present moment related to the future. We often feel anxious, angry and restlessness over situations that are out of our control. Do these feelings make us feel good or are they doing anything good to our body? How we react to these feelings and situations is where the importance of our living lies.

An unhealed person finds offense in almost anything. A healed person finds ways to understand the situation. If healing is that important, how do we do that? One possible step is embracing uncertainty.

Here are the 10 steps to embrace uncertainty right now.

  1. Focus on what matters the most. Identity what is bothering you the most. Sometimes there are more than one situations, be patient and identify as many as you can. Please keep an open mind about the possibility that our desires and wishes can be fulfilled in a way that we have never imagined.
  2. Instead of wanting not to feel it, allow these feelings to flow through you without any blockages. Don’t try to stop yourself from feeling your emotions instead, just let them flow through you.
  3. Just the way a child needs to be heard and understood, your mind and your body need attention. Give your energy to understand yourself. Why do you feel this way? What is the need for you to control the situation?
  4. Now that you know what and why you are feeling these things, now try to look at the situation from an observer point of you. For example, consider that this situation is faced by your dear friend. What advice would you give? Just try observing the situation.
  5. The best decisions are made when you have peace of mind. If you need this immediate peace, let go of the situation that is making you anxious. Just let go of all the need to control for a moment and focus on yourself. I mean focus on your true self, not your achievements, your endeavours, or expectation of any other person/ yourself. Just the experiance the stillness, a state of being.
  6. Now come back to the situation that is bothering you. What could you possibly do? The things in your control are your thoughts, your words and your actions. You cannot control the outcome, other people or the circumstances. Let your focus be on looking on the bright side of life. Instead of thinking what could go wrong, just take a leap of faith and think what could go right? Did you get the answer what could be done with your situation yet? Don’t worry if you didn’t, you will eventually.
  7. Now that you have have certain clarity in your situation, let’s see the best possible action. Your actions should ideally be a reflection of love, an expression of creativity and appreciation. Sometimes in a state of restlessness, it’s hard to stay positive but at that moment if you just surrender and focus on good (and the greater good), you can surely act right. Even if you are unable to find the best suitable action, keep faith that you have the ability to act right.
  8. You can see that you can control only your thoughts, your words and your actions, not what others think of you or the outcome of your actions. Taking action towards what you truly desire is how you can embrace uncertainty.
  9. A calm mind is a creative mind. You can check it yourself. The same work can be done effortlessly in a calm state of mind compared to a restlessness state of mind. So, whenever you have any feeling of anxiety or discomfort just address it and understand it. This calms your mind to a great extent.
  10. As they say, if you are disappointed, you are living in the past and of you are anxious, you are living in the future. The only way to be happy is to live in the present moment. The best way to be mindful is by practicing meditation. Uncertainty can be embraced when we find happiness within ourselves in the present moment.

Let me conclude this story with a quote I have written during a tough phase in my life.

Thinking about tomorrow should never ever ruin the happiness of today.

Your happiness lies in the present moment!
